Hord Architects is a second-generation architecture firm based in Memphis, Tennessee.  The firm was founded in 1957 by Lawrence T. Hord, Jr. and continues today under the leadership of his son, Carter Hord, AIA.  Carter is currently licensed to practice in nineteen states and is NCARB certified, allowing for reciprocity in other states.

Our firm specializes in designing churches and nonprofit institutions, which constitute over 95% of our business.  Our partnership with churches and nonprofits is aimed at their long-term building integrity, congregation vitality, and success of their missions and ministries. We start our work by identifying pressing needs in the community, and then find the most appropriate design solutions.  We enjoy working with committees and helping them build consensus.

In the past 65 years, Hord Architects has designed over 300 church-related projects from New York to Tennessee to Idaho.  We believe that our passion, skill, and experience produce a superior product and recognition on the national level as experts of church design.
